The DJI Phantom 3 series is probably one of the most well-known drones on the market. This drone series single-handedly seemed to crack to lid open for an explosion of drone enthusiasts to go purchase their first drone. It popularized new techniques for vlogging and seemingly everyone on YouTube has a drone after these came out. One of the most famous vloggers that regularly uses drone footage is Casey Neistat and I can say it is really neat and awesome what he accomplishes with his drone. For one the footage itself is usually just awe inspiring beautiful and secondly the way he actually uses the drone is equally admirable.
The DJI Phantom 3 series is now currently the older series because the Phantom 4 and Mavic Pro are available but that does not mean they are not worth buying. These drones will represent a better price point than the Phantom 4 and will still provide very high-quality footage.
There are a handful of different Phantom 3 series drones, if you didn’t already know.
The most basic is the Phantom 3 standard with the red and white coloring scheme. This is a good model if you want to get a drone with a good camera and just take some basic footage. It will take 2.7K video footage and 12 megapixel still photos. The range is the lowest of the Phantom 3 series drones and I will not put an exact number because this is debatable under different conditions and weather. DJI claims about 3/4 of a mile or 120 meters. It has approximately a 25-minute battery life. This model is currently the most affordable DJI Phantom 3 series available.
The next and slightly more expensive model is the Phantom 3 4k. This is basically the same drone as the standard expect that it has a 4k camera on it. The controller is slightly upgraded as well. This is the cheapest model you can get 4k camera on so if you mostly concerned about image quality and don’t care how far it can fly or about some of the other technical features of the more expensive models than this might be a good choice for you.
The next model and my top recommendation is the DJI Phantom 3 advanced, this is the model that I recommend for the most versatility out of the Phantom 3 series with the best price. The Advanced will give you 23 minutes of flight time with 2.7K footage as well as a 12.4 megapixel still photos that have an upgraded Sony sensor on the camera. The range is quite a bit better with DJI claiming about 3 miles or about 5 kilometers when used in an unobstructed area. It also features Lightbridge technology that helps to improve the video streaming from the drone back down to the controller. It has better GPS capabilities as well.
The TOP model for the DJI Phantom 3 series is the professional and it is basically the same as the advanced but features the full 4k video footage. The Professional model is the best of the Phantom 3 series as far as technical specs and camera capabilities. With the recent price being drop as of late 2016 this model might represent the best buy for yourself. I personally really like this model and wouldn’t hesitate to add it to my gear as a vlogger.
